Suspected robber arrested after chase

A suspected armed robber was arrested after he was pulled over following a brief chase that began near where he allegedly held up a man last week, New Orleans police said.

Cuong Nguyen, 36, allegedly robbed a 21-year-old man in the 14000 block of Peltier Drive about 12:25 a.m. Aug. 28.

Nguyen took the victim’s wallet, police said. The victim said that as he ran into his home, Nguyen fired a shot and sped away in a green Kia Soul.

Sgt. Wade Bowser later saw the Kia speeding near the robbery scene.

Officers arrested Nguyen without incident after a brief chase.

The victim arrived on the scene shortly after Nguyen was arrested and identified him as the man who had robbed him, police said.

Nguyen was booked on a count of armed robbery and a count of illegal discharge of a firearm.

Teen burglary suspect tries to flee officers

A 17-year-old burglary suspect was arrested after he tried to run away from officers who spotted him carrying stolen goods in New Orleans East, police said.

Jimmie Johnson was booked Wednesday with simple burglary and resisting an officer by flight.

Seventh District officers responded about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to a call about an unknown male going through a purse and tossing the contents to the ground as he was walking in the 10000 block of Lake Forest Boulevard.

When Johnson saw police, he ran away and through several backyards before he was caught.

Police said Johnson had taken the purse during a vehicle burglary in the parking lot of a business in the 5600 block of Read Boulevard. Police did not say when that burglary happened.

Man killed in Uptown double shooting ID’d

A man killed Wednesday afternoon during a double shooting in Uptown has been identified as William Eleby.

Eleby, 25, was shot about 4 p.m. at Amelia and South Saratoga streets, said Jeffrey Rouse, the Orleans Parish coroner. He died on the scene.

A 53-year-old man was shot in the leg. His injury was not serious, police said.

Police have not identified a suspect or motive in the shooting.
