Charges increased after crash victim dies

The victim of a hit-and-run accident on Causeway Boulevard in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve has died, and the Metairie woman accused of hitting him now is booked with one count each of negligent homicide and obstruction of justice.

Travis Burns, 27, of Metairie, died Wednesday of injuries sustained in the Dec. 24 accident, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Jennifer Kuzma, 25, who was arrested Dec. 29, initially was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with felony hit-and-run, injuring public records and criminal mischief.

Gunman breaks into I-10 service road home

At 7:43 a.m. on Wednesday, two men, ages 30 and 51, were at their home on the North Interstate 10 Service Road when an unidentified man armed with a gun kicked in the front door and told them to lie on the floor. They did so, and the man fled with property he took from the home. Police are asking for help in identifying the burglar.

Police seeking info on armed robberies

Police are investigating several armed robberies that occurred Wednesday.

A 26-year-old man standing outside his house in the 2200 block of Valmont Street just before 1 p.m. was approached by two men who stopped out of a brown sport utility vehicle armed with guns. They ordered him to lie face down, and one of the two men went inside the house and took his laptop and struck him on the head before both men fled.

At Sycamore Place and Leonidas Street at 6:40 p.m., a 17-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint of his wallet, cellphone, watch and shoes after he was approached from behind.

At Robert E. Lee Boulevard and St. Anthony St. at 7:22, two men put a gun under the chin of a 23-year-old man and stole $60, a laptop and clothing.

At 8:34, a maintenance man at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park on Read Boulevard was approached by three armed men who stole his golf cart and drove off.

Woman carjacked at Fountainbleau Drive

At 10:25 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was carjacked in the 4200 block of Fountainbleau Drive, when three armed suspects forced her out of the vehicle.

The vehicle was recovered shortly after in a nearby area.

Police investigate New Year’s Eve shootings

Police are looking into two Wednesday night shootings.

Just before 6 p.m., police arrived on the scene at Curran and Shorewood boulevards to find a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital.

Three hours later, at South Derbigny Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a 23-year-old man was shot by a person in a black truck. The attacker fled and the shooting victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two arguments end in stabbings

A 24-year-old man was cut by his roommate in the 6000 block of Vermillion Boulevard at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday after the two got into an argument.

In an unrelated incident at 1:35 a.m. on Thursday, a 24-year-old man got into an argument with a male family member, who stabbed him in the lower part of his body. The incident occurred in the 2500 block of Jasmine Street, and the victim was taken to the hospital for surgery.

Wee hours of new year see two burglaries

At 2:49 a.m. Thursday, two armed men forced their way into a home in the 4400 block of Congress Drive and shoved a man to the floor and stole several items that were not identified by police.

At 4 a.m., two armed men forced their way into a home on Ibis Street and stole money from a man and three women.
