A man was shot and killed inside his LaPlace home early Monday.
Burnell Perrilloux Jr., 39, was killed after an argument with two men who knocked on the door of his home in the 400 block of Orange Loop about 4:30 a.m., according to the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said the argument appeared to have begun in a carport adjacent to the house; at least one of the suspects entered the home. The fatal shot was fired inside the house, Tregre said.
Sharon Creesy Green, a cousin of the victim, said Perrilloux lived at the home with his mother. Green described him as “very sweet” and “humble.”
“He stayed here to help his mother out,” she said.
Green and other family members said they did not know anything about the incident or what might have provoked it. Perrilloux’s mother was not at home when it happened, they said; she was working a night shift.
“It’s just another senseless murder in the parish, and it’s time for the young people to see this isn’t right,” Green said.
It was the fourth homicide of the year in St. John Parish, and the first in memory in the neighborhood, according to resident Oscar Morgan.
“I’ve been living here 58 years, and this is the first time something like this has happened,” he said. “I left the house around 7 a.m. and saw everyone down the street. I didn’t know what was going on.”
Tregre said there were no obvious links at this point between Monday morning’s killing and a double homicide last month about a mile away.
Tregre asked that anyone with information regarding the incident call the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 359-TIPS or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
