Woman booked in Algiers stabbing
Police booked a woman early Monday morning and accused her of stabbing two other women inside a residence in the 5700 block of Tullis Drive in Algiers.
Cheryl Hollingshed, 59, stabbed her girlfriend, 41, when she discovered her in a bedroom with a male acquaintance, police said. Another woman also was cut while trying to intervene in the fight.
Coroner identifies two homicide victims
Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse has identified the victims of two Saturday killings.
Jonathan Dotson, 31, died in the 1200 block of Congress Street of a gunshot wound. Police said he was found shot several times inside a vacant house about 2 a.m.
Anthony Thomas Jr., 29, died of a gunshot wound at St. Peter and North Dorgenois streets. He was found about 10 a.m. shot several times next to the street, beside a bicycle.
Man sentenced to life for student’s killing
Joharri Walker was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the 2014 killing of Stefan Johnson in Marrero.
Walker, 20, was convicted in September of shooting Johnson, a 16-year-old student at John Ehret High School.
Johnson was shot in the back in the 1000 block of Carmadelle Street on July 8, 2014. He managed to run several blocks but collapsed on Martin Drive; he died shortly after being taken to a hospital.
A second person was arrested as an accessory to the shooting, but the charges were dropped.
Walker was sentenced by Judge Donald Rowan, of 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna.
Man shot Monday in deadly Marrero block
Hours after Joharri Walker was sentenced to life in prison Monday for killing a teenager in the 1000 block of Carmadelle Street in Marrero last year, another shooting occurred in the same block.
A man was shot there about 7 p.m., the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said. He was listed in critical condition.
LaPlace woman killed, child injured in crash
A 39-year-old LaPlace woman was killed Monday morning and a 1-year-old child was injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 51 in St. John the Baptist Parish, State Police said.
Joywanne Adams, the child and another occupant in a 2011 Nissan Altima were transported to a hospital after the 10 a.m. crash. Adams died at the hospital.
Kyelajuan Bolding, 22, and the child suffered moderate injuries, State Police said. They said the child was not properly restrained because a child’s seat was not properly installed in the vehicle.
Marlon Pierre Jr., 24, of Luling, was traveling south on U.S. 51 when his 2004 GMC Envoy veered across the turn lane into the path of the Nissan driven by Adams. Pierre was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, authorities said.
State Police said impairment was not suspected, but blood was taken from Pierre for analysis. Criminal charges were pending, and the crash remained under investigation, State Police said.
Three people robbed in separate incidents
A man was stabbed during an early morning armed robbery in the Treme neighborhood, New Orleans police said.
The man, 33, was walking in the 1700 block of Bayou Road about 4 a.m. when he was approached by three people who asked him for $2. When he said he did not have the money, police said, one of the suspects began stabbing him.
Police also reported that a man, 35, was robbed at gunpoint near Orleans and North Claiborne avenues about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
In a third incident, a woman, 23, was robbed by four juveniles who forced her to the ground in the 2600 block of St. Philip Street about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. She was beaten and her cellphone was stolen, police said.
Five accused of drug distribution in LaPlace
Five men were arrested Friday and accused of distributing crack cocaine out of a residence on Davis Court in LaPlace, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
After four days of surveillance, the Sheriff’s Office said, investigators executed a search warrant that yielded 16 grams of crack cocaine, 300 grams of marijuana and 22 grams of synthetic marijuana.
Deputies arrested Gary Davis, 56; Jarvis Davis, 30; Damion Davis, 35; Ephraim Williams, 39; and Milton Joseph Jr., 40. All were booked on counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana. A judge set bail for all five at or slightly above $150,000 each.
Two-alarm fire strikes Central City house
Fire was reported at a one-story, wood-frame house near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and South Liberty Street about 5:30 a.m. Monday, the New Orleans Fire Department said.
Firefighters brought the two-alarm blaze under control by about 6:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Armed robbery reported in Metairie
A man was robbed at gunpoint in the 1300 block of Myrtle Street in Metairie about 1:30 a.m. Monday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said. No injuries were reported.
