• NEW ORLEANS POLICE DEPARTMENT: The New Orleans Police Department will be the beneficiary of the Arnaud’s Restaurant teddy bear program, which begins Nov. 12. This year’s goal is to collect 1,500 new teddy bears for police to hand out to children who have been traumatized due to tragedy or victimization. At the end of the collection period, Dec. 31, the teddy bears will be donated to NOPD officers to place in their vehicles. “With hundreds of teddy bears donated last year, the men and women of the New Orleans Police Department experienced firsthand the real difference they can make when they share a friendly, furry bear,” said Melanie Talia, executive director of the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation. “They look forward, once again, to the opportunity of helping these children and families cope with traumatic events by giving them a little something to hold on to during a time of crisis.” Collection bins will be accessible during normal hours of operation at Arnaud’s Restaurant, 813 Bienville St.; the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation, 400 Poydras St., Suite 2105; and in the lobby of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, 2020 St. Charles Ave.
