A veteran New Orleans police sergeant was suspended without pay after he was arrested Wednesday on dozens of child pornography charges, authorities said.

Sgt. Bradley Wax, 54, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on 38 counts of child pornography, said Laura Gerdes Colligan, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Buddy Caldwell, whose office was responsible for the arrest.

Authorities from the AG’s Cyber Crime Unit and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant in January at Wax’s Mandeville home after identifying him as a suspect in an undercover online operation.

A forensic investigation of computers and other electronics taken at that time found Wax was in possession of child pornography, Colligan said.

Wax has been with the NOPD for 16 years and most recently served in the 7th District, which covers New Orleans East.

Each count of child pornography carries a maximum 20-year sentence upon conviction.

Wax will remain on emergency suspension pending the outcome of the case, NOPD Deputy Chief Arlinda Westbrook said.
