Advocate staff photo by SCOTT THRELKELD -- Riders toss beads and trinkets Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, as the Krewe of Perseus rolls in Slidell to the theme, ‘Imaginary Places.’ King Perseus was George Downey and Queen Andromeda was Judy Downey. The Krewe of Perseus is the oldest Carnival organization in Slidell, Louisiana established in 1970.

A story appearing on WGNO’s website details how a labor dispute at the Port of Los Angeles has negatively affected New Orleans Mardi Gras krewes’ access to throws, the sought-after beads and trinkets tossed to the crowds from parade floats.

Not only is the problem adversely affecting the krewes, the bead distributors themselves are facing increased costs to deliver their merchandise in time for parades.
