New Orleans firefighters battled a fire Monday morning in a vacant house near Lapeyrouse and North Roman streets in the 7th Ward.
The New Orleans Fire Department arrived at the scene at 8:14 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming through the roof of a single-story, wood-frame home at 1710-12 Lapeyrouse. The fire quickly spread through the home, causing a collapse in the rear of the structure, the department said.
The two-alarm fire was visible to drivers on Interstate 10 during the morning commute. It intensified quickly, damaging at least two adjacent homes.
Firefighters brought the fire under control about 8:49 a.m.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
