NOLA EAST FRIENDS FEST: Music and dance performances and free health screenings will be featured during the Nola East Friends Fest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park, 5601 Read Blvd., New Orleans. The free community event is sponsored by the Friends of Joe W. Brown Memorial Park, in partnership with Daughters of Charity Health Centers, which will provide free health screenings, flu shots, and other health services.

Entertainers will include Real Love, BRW, The Shepherd Band 2, Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church Choir, The Church at New Orleans Mass Choir, Soul Heirs Band, Celebrity Divas Dance Factory, Kelly School of Dance, Precious Jewels and Vayla’s Dance 4 Lyfe. Vendors will sell food and arts and crafts.

CHILDREN’S HALLOWEEN COSTUMES: Costumes, accessories, dancewear, props and fun-time pieces for donation to children ages 0-18 may be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Southern Costumes, 951 Lafayette St., New Orleans. Donors will receive a 10 percent discount on a Halloween costume rental. The costume drive is being conducted with, a recycling and arts education nonprofit.

LPO HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR: Some of classical music’s most haunting tunes will be featured during the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s Halloween Spooktacular at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 at Roussel Hall at Loyola University, 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans.

JoAnn Falletta will be the conductor, and the performance will also feature actor Peter Elliot. Audience members are invited to come in costume, and those who arrive at 1:45 p.m. will have an opportunity to interact with LPO musicians and their instruments before the concert. MUSICAL IN RIVERTOWN: Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts, 325 Minor St., Kenner, will present the musical “Fancy Nancy,” based on the popular children’s book of the same name.

The show is directed by Joel Rainey and will feature young performers from throughout the New Orleans area. The choreographer is Julieanne Natal and the set designer is Eric Porter.

Performances are Friday, Saturday, Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., and Sunday and Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16.50 per person.
