Metairie man accused of soliciting a minor

A Metairie man convicted of possessing child pornography in 2010 was charged by the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office on Thursday on two counts of the same crime and two more of soliciting a minor.

Jason Zeller, 38, was also charged in a bill of information with one count of illegal use of a social networking website.

He was arrested in October after the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the FBI found he had sexually explicit photographs of a child under 13 and had been chatting on Facebook with an underage girl.

Zeller was caught in a child-porn sting originating in New Mexico in 2009, when he was found to have transferred hundreds of images from his home in Harahan. He was taken into custody by the state Attorney General’s Office after his home computer was found to have 75 images of rape and sexual abuse of children as young as 5.

He was sentenced in 2010 to three years in prison.

Zeller was released from jail in October after posting a $75,000 bond. His case has been assigned to Judge Michael Mentz of the 24th Judicial District Court in Gretna.

Man booked on lewd acts in Covington

A man who police say committed lewd acts in front of the clerk at a Covington store on three occasions was arrested Wednesday, Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz said in a news release.

Frederick Mayeaux was booked on stalking, a misdemeanor, after the store clerk identified him in a photo lineup.

Police say that Mayeaux massaged his genitals and became sexually aroused while at the store’s register on Jan. 10 and 25, something that the clerk said he also had done a few weeks earlier. She called police after the third incident.

They zeroed in on Mayeaux as a suspect based on transaction records obtained through the bank that had issued the card he had used for purchases.

The Covington police asked any victims of similar incidents to call (985) 892-8500.
