HEALTH FAIRS: The Jefferson Council on Aging is holding a series of community health fairs at senior centers throughout the parish this month. Free and open to the public, the fairs will feature health tests such as glucose testing, blood pressure screenings, vision tests, hearing tests, flu shots and information on exercise. Refreshments and entertainment, plus door prizes and giveaways will be featured. Guest speakers and line dancing shows will be scheduled throughout the month at each location. SEPT. 16: Lafitte Senior Center, 4927 Treasure Drive, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and also at the Kenner Senior Center, 641 Compromise St., 9 a.m. to noon.

SEPT. 22: Bridge City Senior Center, 1601 Bridge City Ave., 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 17, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rusty Nail, 1100 Constance St., New Orleans. There will be a 50/50 raffle and 20 percent of sales will benefit NAMI New Orleans.
Saturday, Sept. 19, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Second Line Brewing, 433 N. Bernadotte St., New Orleans. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a portion of sales will benefit NAMI New Orleans.
Friday, Oct. 2, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a 50/50 raffle at Finn McCool’s, 3701 Banks St., New Orleans.
Saturday, Oct. 3, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Handsome Willy’s, 218 Robertson St., New Orleans. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a chance to have your bar tab paid.
Friday, Oct. 8, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a 50/50 raffle at Phillips, 733 Cherokee, New Orleans.
Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 4 p.m. at Studio Alvarez, 605 Gallier St., New Orleans. Food, wine and beer will be served, with a suggested donation of $20, and 20 percent of art sales will benefit NAMI New Orleans.
