The Tulane Cancer Center Patient Relief Fund was the big winner when volleyball teams from Dominican High School and Mount Carmel Academy competed in Dominican’s seventh annual Paint the Pitt Pink game Oct. 20.

The opening prayer was led by Dominican volleyball player Chloe Bott, whose mother, Marta Jane Barber Bott, died from breast cancer in 2008. Marta Bott was assistant principal for student affairs and head volleyball coach at Ursuline Academy, and also served as the school’s athletics director.

“It was her fight with this disease that inspired many schools in our area to host the Pink Games,” said Paul Spitzfaden, DHS athletics director.

The Tulane Cancer Center Patient Relief Fund provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients and their families. Since 2008, the fund has helped more than 235 patients.
