Shortly after leaving a bar, a man was gunned down late Sunday night near the intersection of South Causeway Boulevard and Andover Street in Jefferson, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office reports.

“The victim, whose identity is being withheld at this time pending next-of-kin notification, was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Col. John N. Fortunato, commander of the sheriff’s Public Information Office, said in an email.

According to witnesses, the victim left the bar at 1113 South Causeway and while walking on South Causeway Boulevard was approached by three unidentified men, one of whom began firing with a handgun, Fortunato said. The men were seen driving off, but no description is available of their vehicle.

Deputies responded to reports of the shooting at 11:52 p.m. Sunday, and found the body with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the street in the 1100 block of South Causeway.

Homicide investigators were still working to determine a motive and identify suspects.
