A 17-year-old died in a shooting early Thursday, and his brother told authorities that he witnessed the shooting and was almost shot himself, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 2:50 a.m., JPSO received a call from someone saying his brother had been shot at Westmere Street and Post Drive in Marrero, JPSO spokesman Glen Boyd said. Deputies found a 17-year-old boy lying on a levee bank unresponsive.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the victim’s brother, the suspect also tried to shoot him, firing at least one shot in his direction but missing.
The brother said he escaped by running through the shallow canal.
The victim’s name is being withheld at this time, Boyd said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Investigations Bureau at (504) 364-5300.
