New Orleans police have arrested a man accused of running over and killing a German shepherd that supposedly attacked his dog last week in Gentilly.
Glen Ford, 63, was booked Saturday with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
The incident happened April 5 near Ford’s home in the 4900 block of Montegut Street.
Ford called the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to report the German shepherd’s death, said Eric Durcinka, the organization’s humane law enforcement supervisor.
Ford told a dispatcher he had been following the German shepherd and another dog involved in the attack when he struck the German shepherd with his vehicle.
Ford claimed in a later interview with police and the LA/SPCA that he had been trying to photograph the German shepherd and struck the animal inadvertently, Durcinka said
Ford, who has been released on bail, did not return a call seeking comment Monday.
