The Louisiana State Police is now getting an additional $2.5 million to maintain a permanent presence in New Orleans.

LSP commander Col. Mike Edmonson told reporters Wednesday there has been a 40-percent reduction in crime in the French Quarter since his troopers started working with the NOPD in and around the busy tourist areas in the city.

The LSP expanded their role on New Orleans Highways last month.
