Two people died and a passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash in the 300 block of Lakeshore Parkway on Friday night, New Orleans police said.
The driver of a red Dodge pickup, a 27-year-old man, was traveling east about 8 p.m. when the pickup clipped a curb, causing the driver to lose control and slam into a tree at a high rate of speed, Officer Frank Robertson said in a news release.
Emergency Medical Services extracted three people from the truck. The driver and a 5-year-old boy died at the scene. A female passenger was taken to a hospital.
Police identify dead Marrero home intruder
A home intruder who was fatally stabbed Friday by a Marrero man defending his wife was identified Saturday as Domone Bennett, 28, of Marrero.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said Bennett broke into a home in the 1200 block of Michael Street in Marrero and shot resident Dana Walker, 34, multiple times.
As her husband, Earl Jones, 47, tried to defend her, he grabbed a knife away from Bennett and stabbed him. Jones also was wounded in the struggle.
Man claims sexual assault at unknown site
A 32-year-old man said he was sexually assaulted Friday evening while walking in downtown New Orleans.
However, he couldn’t tell 8th District officers where the assault took place.
Taxi driver, passenger held up Uptown
A taxi on Fontainebleau Drive at Vincennes Place was bumped on the rear by another vehicle about 1:40 a.m. Saturday.
When the 60-year-old driver got out to look at his car, he was approached by the other driver, a man with a gun who demanded property from the driver and his female passenger, 19.
The passenger complied, and the robber fled.
