Two discount mobile phone stores in the 7th Ward and St. Roch were robbed Tuesday.

Police said the first stick-up happened about 11 a.m. at the Boost Mobile store at 2108 St. Bernard Ave. Two armed men stole cash from the register and an employee.

The owner, who gave his name as Al, said a clerk was hit in the head but not seriously injured.

Separately, a MetroPCS store in the 1700 block of Franklin Avenue was robbed about 1:20 p.m. Police said several armed men took money from the register. Four employees or patrons were inside the store. One of the robbers stole a patron’s vehicle after taking the keys, but it was quickly recovered.

Al said the frequency of armed robberies at the stores he owns and manages increases as Christmas approaches. “People don’t have any money,” he said.
