New Orleans — Xavier University is offering a series of free concerts at the Old U.S. Mint as well as workshops this week as part of its Jazz Festival, which highlights various genres of jazz.

All events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday’s 7 p.m. concert at the Old U.S. Mint focuses on contemporary jazz and features trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis.

The final concert, 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mint, will be performed by the Xavier University Jazz Ensemble with Donald Harrison as the featured soloist.

The concerts were kicked off with a salute to traditional jazz featuring Michael White and his Original Liberty Brass Band.

Workshops, consisting of one-hour lecture presentations by jazz artists and clinicians, will be held Thursday, beginning at noon, at Xavier Music Recital Hall.
