Terry Speaks, who decided earlier this week to be his own lawyer only to reverse course two days later, has decided to take the stand this afternoon to defend himself against charges that he and his girlfriend, Margaret Sanchez, stabbed Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart to death, cut up her body, and threw the pieces into the waterways of Mississippi.

Defense attorney John Benz, who began making his case just before noon Friday, told Judge Steven Grefer that Speaks would testify at 1:15, right after a lunch break.

Speaks will be the defense’s second witness, after Margaret Sanchez’s father, Joe Sanchez, took the stand before lunch.

The trial is expected to conclude later Friday.

Lockhart was last seen leaving Temptations Gentlemen’s Club, where she worked with Speaks and Sanchez on June 6, 2012.
