After 19 months of displacement, the turtles have returned to Brennan’s Restaurant in the French Quarter.

While the restaurant courtyard was being renovated, the 10 turtles lived in the backyard of corporate executive chef Haley Bittermann.

They returned March 14, riding wagons in a bagpipe-led procession that the restaurant dubbed the slowest second-line on earth.

The turtles are named after sauces: French Béchamel, Espagnole, Hollandaise, Tomate and Velouté; New Orleans Remoulade, Ravigote, Bordelaise and Mignonette; and Cocktail, the only male.

The wagons became floats once they were decorated by the children of the Brennan’s staff.
