St. Charles Parish government will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of parish infrastructure and services, including pumping stations and the new emergency operations center, during its fall 2014 information tours. Transportation and lunch will be provided.

A west bank tour will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, beginning at the St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center, 15026 River Road, Hahnville. An east bank tour will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, also beginning at the emergency operations center.

Additions to the tour include a walk-through of the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter and the new Edward A. Dufresne Community Center, available both days.

“I want to personally encourage all St. Charles Parish residents to take the Info Tour,” Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. said. “It offers a complete look at what it takes to keep the parish up and running, in a way that many residents don’t notice as they go about their daily activities.”

Patrons also will have an opportunity to ask various department heads about current infrastructure and future plans.

The west bank tour also will feature the Luling wastewater oxidation pond, the Cousins pumping station and the Luling waterworks facility. In addition, the east bank tour will feature the Destrehan wastewater treatment plant, the Cross Bayou pumping station and the New Sarpy waterworks plant.

For reservations, call (985) 783-5182 or fill out the online form located at www.scpinfotour.org. The deadline to sign up is Oct. 10. Space is limited. Patrons should be ready to climb stairs.
