The Humane Society of Louisiana will be the beneficiary of a Barkitecture competition Aug. 10-16 at Lakeside Mall, 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie.

Contestants will create doghouses to be judged in the categories of most unique and best in show at noon Aug. 16. The doghouse that gets the most online votes during the contest will win the People’s Choice Award.

“We are hoping to see some fanciful creations like doghouses shaped like medieval castles, log cabins or futuristic places of canine lodging,” said Jeff Dorson, director of the Humane Society of Louisiana. The society also sees the competition as a good way to advertise a program or business.

All doghouses will be donated to the Humane Society for use at its 47.5 acre no-kill sanctuary in Mount Hermon.

To register, visit barkitec Contestants can sign up individually or as part of a team of two to four people. Each individual or team must submit a nonrefundable $25 donation upon registration. The registration deadline is Aug. 1.
