UPDATE 7:10 a.m. Monday: Four women were shot Sunday night while standing on a basketball court in the Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans police said.
The four women, ages 23 to 38, were standing on a basketball court in the 2600 block of Caffin Avenue around 9 p.m. when they were struck by gunshots, according to a New Orleans Police Department preliminary offense log.
The women were transported to several local hospitals by private conveyance, police said. All had non-life-threatening injuries.
Police originally reported that three women were injured, but said Monday morning that a fourth had also been taken to the hospital.
The New Orleans Police Department reported that it is investigating the situations involving three women who arrived at area hospitals suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds late Sunday night. The shooting happened at around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Choctaw and Florida Avenue.
