Police responding to reports of a shooting early Monday found a crashed car on South Dorgenois Street with one fatal gunshot victim and an injured woman inside.

The shooting victim is an unidentified man who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department. The 18-year-old woman suffered injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital by EMS.

The 12:23 a.m. call reported a shooting in the 1200 block of South Dorgenois Street, where police found the crashed silver Chevrolet Malibu car.

Through investigation, detectives learned that the two victims were in the male victim’s vehicle in the 3900 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway when an unknown man approached the vehicle with a firearm and fired at the vehicle.

The victims fled the scene in the vehicle, heading north on Broad Avenue and driving to the intersection of South Dorgenois Street and Clio Place, where the vehicle crashed into an empty lot.

No further information was immediately available.
