While Trung Le is fighting manslaughter and attempted murder charges in the June 29 Bourbon Street shooting that killed a 21-year-old nursing student, he also is fighting — in the traditional bare-knuckles sense — inside Orleans Parish Prison, authorities said.

Le was booked Sept. 30 with simple battery after allegedly punching a fellow inmate “with a closed fist several times,” according to a police report.

According to the report, Le gave a recorded statement about the altercation, admitting that he struck 21-year-old Blair Taylor in the head.

Taylor is facing murder charges in an Aug. 10 drive-by shooting in the Lower 9th Ward that killed two people, disabled two toddlers and wounded three others. Terrence McBride, 33, and Jasmine Anderson, 16, were the two victims killed in that shooting.

Le and Taylor had been housed together in the Templeman V lockup. According to the police report, when Taylor was asked if he wanted to press charges against Le, he said he did.
