Lionel Ferbos, a trumpeter and icon of New Orleans’ traditional jazz scene hailed as the city’s oldest musician who gained international attention for performing well past the century mark, died Saturday, just two days after turning 103.

In this video, Ferbos, at age 100, performs “I’m Going to Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” with his band during his regular gig at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe.
