Local, state and federal officials marked the opening of the final portion of Crescent Park on Thursday.

The Marigny section of the 1.4-mile-long riverfront park and a crossing bridge and elevators providing access to it now are open to the public.

The $31.2 million park runs from Elysian Fields Avenue in Marigny to Mazant Street in Bywater. Construction began in 2010, and the Bywater portion opened last year.

The park features pedestrian- and bike-friendly paths, picnic areas and a fenced dog run.

The Marigny section includes the Mandeville Crossing pedestrian bridge and elevators connecting Elysian Fields Avenue to the Mandeville Shed, a former industrial wharf that has been converted into community and event space on the riverside of the floodwall.

The city-owned site is operated and maintained by the French Market Corp., which also provides security.

The park is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and until 7 p.m. during daylight saving time.
