Authorities have determined that a report a 16-year-old girl was raped on the Uptown campus of Lusher Charter School’s middle and high school was false.

The 16-year-old girl who said she was raped at the campus in the 5600 block of Freret Street withdrew the allegation following a forensic interview, said Tyler Gamble, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.

“Based on the forensic interview and initial NOPD investigation, detectives have determined that a sexual assault did not occur,” Gamble said in a written statement.

The girl will not face any criminal charges “at this time,” he said.

Police first released information about the alleged incident last week. An overnight crime log listed a rape about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

A police spokeswoman last week did not respond to a question asking whether that was when the alleged crime was reported to the NOPD or when it was alleged to have happened.

Nola.com, citing a police incident report, said the girl claimed she was raped by a stranger about 3:45 p.m. Oct. 17.

Gamble on Wednesday confirmed that information.

“The safety and security of our campus was never compromised,” Lusher CEO Kathy Riedlinger said in a prepared statement. “We continue to examine all aspects of safety policies and protocol, recognizing the safety of our students is our number one priority.”

Riedlinger said the school would offer no other comment on the matter.
