U.S. Navy Cmdr. Michael K. Ford, commanding officer of the Navy Recruiting District in Jacksonville, Florida, was the guest speaker during a brunch honoring the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Gretna Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

The Rev. Harold E. Clark Sr. and Larry Moody, the only surviving founding charter members of the chapter, attended the Feb. 27 event at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. They are both retired educators from the Jefferson Parish public school system. Moody also is a former reporter with WDSU-TV.

The anniversary event concluded with a Black History Month and Pan Hellenic celebration at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Marrero, where the Rev. Thomas A. Brown Jr., a Gretna Alumni member, is pastor.
