It’s Carnival time, and while Jefferson Parish’s official parade season doesn’t begin until the Krewe of Little Rascals in Metairie on Jan. 24, a pair of popular parades in area neighborhoods will be the first two to roll.

First, Christ the King Lutheran Church will hold its annual Krewe of Noah parade at 11:30 a.m. Sunday on the church grounds, 1001 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner.

All youngsters are encouraged to bring a decorated wagon or tricycle and to wear a costume. Also, bring along trinkets and Mardi Gras beads to throw.

Additional beads and decorating materials will be available.

The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, call the church at (504) 469-2909.

Jumping to next weekend, the St. Christopher Cub Scout Pack 117 will host its 57th annual Cub Scout Parade at 10 a.m. Jan. 23.

The theme is “Pack 117 Takes You to the Movies.”

Reigning as king will be Harrison Trahan, and the queen will be his sister, Hannah Trahan.

The route has changed this year. Instead of beginning at St. Benilde School on Division Street, the parade will now begin and end at St. Christopher School, 3900 Derbigny St., Metairie.

After the parade, there will be a party in the St. Christopher gymnasium, with hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, jambalaya, desserts and soft drinks.

Last year, about 300 Scouts participated in the parade, representing more than 20 Scout organizations — Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownie and Daisy Scouts.
