The Houston's restaurant on 4241 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie has announced that it will be closing on May 17, leaving the restaurant on St. Charles Avenue as the only one in New Orleans.

"We will be closing our doors after service on Sunday, May 17th," said a statement on the Houston's facebook page on Friday. "Thank you to all of our guests and staff for 34 years of terrific support and memories."

The statement encouraged Houston's patrons to go to the one on St. Charles Avenue where many of its current staff will be relocating.

"Please know that we are enthusiastically committed to serving you long into the future at Houston's on St. Charles Avenue, and we expect that many of our staff members will be moving to that location," the statement said. "We hope to see you there soon."

The annoucement resulted in a slew of comments, both good and bad, on the restaurant facebook page.
