Louisiana Poet Laureate Peter Cooley will hold a poetry workshop at the Alvar Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday as part of the library’s National Poetry Month series of events. ‘HIRING FOR GROWTH’: The Algiers Economic Development Foundation will present the business program “Hiring for Growth” at the Algiers Regional Library from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The program will be led by Ronnie Slone, president of The Slone Group, who brings more than 30 years of experience in management, human resources, training facilitation and professional staffing with several Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. The program is sponsored by Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses.
DESIGN CONTEST DEADLINE: Teens have until noon on Thursday to submit their entries into the Teen Summer Reading Program Design Contest. The artist who produces the winning design will receive a $100 gift card, and the design will be included on all Teen Summer Reading Program materials. The Nix Library, Carrollton Area Network and the office of City Councilwoman Susan Guidry are looking for images that capture the natural beauty, recreational activities, architectural points of interest or people enjoying and enriching the Carrollton community. PEOPLE BEHIND THE STATS: The WWNO radio project “Unprisoned” tells the stories behind the statistics of our criminal justice system and the ways families, neighborhoods and notions of justice are impacted by it. The people behind the program will be at the Alvar Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the program and share stories. “Unprisoned” is produced by Eve Abrams and presented by WWNO and Finding America, a national initiative produced by the Association of Independents in Radio Inc., and with the financial support of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
