De La Salle High School’s 62nd graduation liturgy was held at Holy Name of Jesus Church on May 19, with the Rev. Michael Schneller, chaplain, celebrating. He was assisted at the altar by the Rev. Tony Rigoli.
The class was led by valedictorian Maria V. Gómez and salutatorian Marisa P. Thomassie.
Gómez, daughter of Edgar Gómez and Noemy Roas García, will attend Tulane University on a Presidential Scholarship; she plans to major in biology/pre-med. She is the recipient of the National Presidential Academic Excellence Award and was named a National Hispanic Scholar.
Marisa Thomassie is the daughter of William and Michele Thomassie. She plans to attend Northeastern University in Boston to major in international affairs. Thomassie, a National Merit Finalist, received Northeastern’s Merit Finalist Scholarship. She also was presented the Pro Deo et Patria Award for “faithful and exceptional service to school and community” by DLS President Michael Guillot at the ceremony.
Campus Minister Tony Behan presented L’Association Award, chosen by the members of the senior class, for courage, scholarship, character, service and leadership, to Jackson Ladner. Ladner also was presented the Signum Fidei Award, considered the highest award given by the school, for outstanding Lasallian qualities in leadership, serious scholarship and wholehearted involvement, by Dr. Warren Caire.
Vice President Tony Bonura presented the Sedes Sapientitae Award, for outstanding service to the school, to Casie Babin.
For the first time, the school presented the Kenneth J. Polite Jr. Award for Scholarship and Leadership to honor the work U.S. District Attorney Polite (’93) has done in living the Lasallian mission and making a difference in the world. Polite presented the award to Shelby Boyd and Julien Purpura.
The Provincial’s Lasallian Award was presented to De’Shia Dillon and Quinn Fassbender by Guillot and Principal Peggy St. John.
