Louisiana State Police said they arrested a Grand Isle man who is a registered sex offender on counts of attempted rape and conspiracy to commit first degree rape on Thursday.
Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange, a Louisiana State Police spokesman, said LSP detectives, along with Homeland Security Investigations-Houma and the Houma Police Department, arrested Wade Perkins III, 30.
LaGrange said in a press release that state detectives “received information” that Perkins was trying to purchase a 6- to 8-year-old girl for sexual purposes.
LaGrange said an undercover investigation started when a person contacted the Houma Police Department, which then turned the case over to the State Police. He expects additional charges to be lodged against Perkins.
Perkins was convicted in September 2006 of second degree criminal sexual conduct in Michigan, according to the Louisiana sex offender registry.
