The New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board said Wednesday that the city’s drinking water is safe to drink despite the presence of a “slightly unusual odor.”

The agency said it has tested the water and determined that it “meets or exceeds” all quality requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

“During this time of the year, it is not unusual to experience taste and odor issues related to algae from the Mississippi River, and some people are more sensitive to these types of events than others,” the agency said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation.”
