Slidell police bust alleged theft ring

For Jaquinta Brady, 24; Latesha Brady, 23; and Dantonio Lee, 21, shoplifting is a family affair, Slidell police allege.

The siblings were arrested Saturday night after a Target store notified officers that the three, who were being sought in connection with a number of earlier thefts, were loading about $1,700 in merchandise into their car in the parking lot, Slidell Police Department spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau said.

They put the merchandise into a basket and pushed it right past the registers and into the parking lot, he said.

During a search of the car, officers found a “magnetic key,” which allows thieves to defeat the security measures on merchandise, Seuzeneau said.

Police also found stolen items from stores in Baton Rouge and Covington, he said.

During subsequent questioning, the three admitted they made a living by stealing items and then reselling them on the street at half price, Seuzeneau said.

Slidell police booked all three on counts of theft over $1,500 and possession of burglary tools. They also notified other agencies of the arrests in case there are other cases to which the three can be tied.
