Chalmette — A Chalmette man was found fatally stabbed inside his apartment Sunday, and the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office has booked a female acquaintance of the victim and another man with murder.
Joseph Spurlock, 68, of LaPlace Drive, Chalmette, was found dead from multiple stab wounds to his body by a co-worker from a New Orleans private security firm.
The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office booked Shari Head, 43, and Chris Geeting, 39, with first-degree murder within hours of discovering Spurlock’s body, said Steve Cannizaro, a sheriff’s spokesman.
The suspects were discovered with Spurlock’s debit card at a Chalmette trailer park, and the victim’s vehicle was discovered in New Orleans.
“Fast work in checking out leads led to a quick arrest in this murder case,” Sheriff James Pohlmann said in a news release.
Investigators believe Spurlock actually was killed some time Friday, but his body wasn’t discovered until a co-worker came to check on him after not hearing from him in several days.
Neighbors reported hearing a woman’s voice at the victim’s apartment on Friday, Cannizaro reported.
Investigators said that Head and Spurlock were friends, and although she lists an abandoned New Orleans home as her residence, she actually lives in Chalmette.
They believe she and Geeting were living together. Cannizaro noted that detectives focused their attention on Head because of her prior arrests for prostitution and theft.
They noted that she was wanted for armed robbery in New Orleans.
Cannizaro said that when detectives located Head and Geeting, they had packed up a pickup truck and appeared to be preparing to flee the area. Geeting also has several prior convictions.
