A 46-year-old Pearl River man was killed Sunday night while trying to cross Interstate 10 in Slidell after police say his vehicle broke down.
According to State Police, the incident occurred near Oak Harbor Boulevard about 9 p.m.
The victim, Ricky Nunez, was traveling eastbound when his vehicle started having mechanical problems. He pulled over on the right shoulder, then started to cross the highway. As he approached the center lane, police say he was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by David Wolfe, 25, of Slidell.
State Police said Wolfe slammed on the brakes but couldn’t avoid Nunez, who died at the scene.
Wolfe was then hit from behind by a 2005 Land Rover driven by Dreux Seghers, 52, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Wolfe and Seghers both passed alcohol tests. No charges were filed against them.
