Dottie and Dick Hallenus are celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary. They live in the Villas at Woldenburg Village in Algiers.
Dick Hallenus, 97, is a WWII veteran and a former employee of New Orleans Public Service Inc. Doris Hallenus, 93, is a homemaker. Both were born and educated in Algiers.
In fact, the two met at Behrman High School while taking part in a production of “The Importance of Being Earnest,” daughter Judy Salathe said. Both had good voices, and they were good dance partners, Salathe said, recalling that when she was a child, “They danced and sang while doing the dishes.”
Other family includes daughter Linda Fettef, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
