Three suspects have been arrested for a drive-by shooting in the Irish Channel Monday night that sent a teenager to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his head.
Police said they have booked 17-year-old Cody Hunter, 20-year-old Jovonta Robertson and 24-year-old Joseph Morgan on four counts of attempted first-degree murder for the shooting, which took place in front of a house in the 2300 block of Constance Street.
The four targets of the shooting were playing basketball at a nearby gym when the suspects entered, police said. Sensing something was wrong, the victims left. While the they were walking away, a silver Nissan Altima pulled up around 6:25 p.m. The vehicle’s occupants started shooting.
One 18-year-old was hit in the head. The other three targets were unhurt.
The suspects fled the scene in their car, police said. But after a description of their vehicle was broadcast on police radio, officers spotted it and took off in pursuit. The three suspects jumped out of their car at South Derbigny and General Taylor streets and took off running. All three were caught by police.
NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot said police have yet to determine a motive.
