Academy of Our Lady senior Courtney Roberts has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Academy of Our Lady nominated Roberts for the national honor.

Roberts has completed more than 260 hours of service at West Jefferson Medical Center and is a CCD teacher at Holy Name of Mary Church. Courtney will also be participating in the Catholic Heart St. Lucia mission trip this year.

She has been accepted to Spring Hill College, Mary Hardin-Baylor and the University of Holy Cross. She has been offered more than $130,000 in scholarships, including the West Jefferson Volunteer Scholarship, Spring Hill Portier Leader Award, Spring Hill Service Award, Mary Hardin-Baylor Honors Scholarship and the American Italian Renaissance Foundation 2016 Joseph Maseli Memorial Scholarship.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, recognizes middle level and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
