Deputies identify teen shot in Harvey

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified 17-year-old Sidney Landry of Gretna as the victim of a fatal shooting Tuesday night in Harvey.

Deputies believe Landry was shot along the canal bank at Tallow Tree Lane and 21st Street about 7:30 p.m. He managed to run a short distance before collapsing on the front porch of a home in the 1200 block of 21st Street.

Landry was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato said detectives had no motives or suspects. He asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Homicide Detective Donald Zanotelli at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Man booked in fatal Canal Street shooting

A 19-year-old New Orleans man who police allege shot another 19-year-old at Canal and South Rampart streets last week surrendered on Tuesday afternoon and was booked on one count of second-degree murder.

Police allege that Daris England, who is training to become a welder, shot Richard Dowell several times about 5:30 p.m. Nov. 30.

Police believe England got into an argument with the victim, then pulled out a gun and shot him. They said an eyewitness saw the crime unfold.

During England’s first court appearance Wednesday, a public defense attorney objected to the state’s reliance on a single witness. The lawyer said there was an “absence of concrete evidence” in the case.

Magistrate Judge Harry Cantrell ordered England held on $500,000 bail.

Woman reports being raped on Canal Street

A 37-year-old woman was sexually assaulted Tuesday afternoon, police said.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. near Claiborne Avenue and Canal Street, according to authorities. It was not clear whether investigators had identified a suspect.

Police investigate 3-year-old rape case

A 17-year-old girl told New Orleans police Tuesday that someone raped her when she was 14 years old.

No other details were released.

Tulane student robbed in Phelps Hall dorm

A 20-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint inside a Phelps Hall dormitory room Tuesday night, Tulane University police said.

About 9 p.m., the 20-year-old allowed two men who had visited him previously into the dorm room. The two men asked if the student had drugs to sell, and he replied that he no longer did that, Tulane police said.

The pair then produced knives and took a small safe and a cellphone before fleeing the room and getting into a dark-colored vehicle.

The victim is affiliated with the university, but the two suspects are not, Tulane police said.

One of the robbers was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, clean-cut, wearing a navy blue shirt and jeans. The second man was described as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a goatee, a skinny build, and wearing a royal blue shirt and jeans.

Police: Remains found floating in river

Authorities recovered remains floating in the Mississippi River early Tuesday but had not determined whether they are human.

The remains were found on the Algiers side of the river near the 7300 block of Patterson Drive.

Man stabbed Tuesday in Central City

A 63-year-old man was stabbed early Tuesday in Central City, police said.

It happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of Fourth Street.

Police said the man was found with several stab wounds and was taken to a hospital.

Three armed robberies reported in four hours

New Orleans police investigated three armed robberies over a stretch of four hours Tuesday night.

The first happened about 8:35 p.m. in the 100 block of Pinewood Court in Algiers. Two men getting out of a truck were approached by two gunmen, ordered to get on the ground and robbed of $250 and a cellphone.

The second incident was reported two minutes later in the Desire neighborhood. Two men getting out of a truck accosted a 17-year-old male in the 3000 block of Oliver White Avenue, police said, ordering him to get on the ground. Police said the robbers took the teen’s shoes, phone and cash.

The third robbery happened about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Orleans Avenue. Police said four men wearing hoodies got out of a black truck and robbed a 32-year-old man of his wallet and tools.
