Funeral arrangements have been announced for Alden James “Doc” Laborde, who revolutionized offshore oil drilling with innovations that made it possible to drill farther from the coast and in deeper waters, and who died Friday at his home in New Orleans.

A Mass will be said at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 6666 Spanish Fort Blvd., New Orleans.

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, and beginning at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Metairie Cemetery.
