A man was shot dead in Violet late Wednesday night, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Ricky Moser, 49, of Slidell, was killed just before midnight after going to the home of his estranged wife and allegedly striking the woman’s daughter in the head. Moser was killed by the daughter’s boyfriend, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Moser died at the scene in the 2100 block of Riverpark Drive. He was shot by Kory Mattox, 21, of Violet, after he allegedly hit Raquel Nicolosi, also 21, with an expandable baton.

Mattox told police he got a shotgun and shot Moser once in the chest during the attack on Nicolosi, who was treated for her injuries at a hospital and released.

The attack happened in the home of Tammy Martin, Moser’s estranged wife. Nicolosi and Mattox were visiting the home at the time.

Martin wasn’t home during the incident, but she had a protective order in effect against Moser, directing him to stay away from her home, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Office had recently obtained warrants to arrest Moser on counts of burglary of Martin’s home and violation of the protective order. Pohlmann said Moser was seen on video surveillance entering Martin’s home about a week ago. The residence was damaged inside.

No arrest has been made in the shooting, pending further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Mattox was questioned by detectives but wasn’t arrested, Pohlmann said.

The District Attorney’s Office also will review the case for possible charges.
