New Orleans police arrested a man in connection with the Thursday killing of a 29-year-old man.

Police found a man shot multiple times in front of an auto repair shop in the 7500 block of Chef Menteur Highway about noon. The victim, Joshua Jackson, died at the scene.

In the course of their investigation, detectives learned that a suspect in the case — Woodrow Johnson, 38 — wanted to turn himself in. They met with Johnson and took him to police headquarters Thursday evening.

He did not give a statement and was accompanied by his attorney.

Detectives said they served a search warrant on a residence and located a handgun, though they did not say whether that was the gun used to shoot Jackson.

Johnson was booked on one count of second-degree murder.

Young man claims rape by another young man

A male juvenile said he was raped by another male juvenile Thursday in Central City.

The victim said he was sexually assaulted about 5:45 p.m. in the 3600 block of Gen. Pershing Street, according to police.

Woman arrested in Harvey shooting death

Chammpel LeVangie, 17, of New Orleans, was arrested Thursday in connection with knowledge she allegedly has of a June killing in Harvey.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said LeVangie surrendered herself at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. She was wanted on an outstanding warrant as an accessory after the fact of second-degree murder.

LeVangie was transported to the Rivarde Juvenile Detention Center and booked.

Demone Robinson, 34, was shot and killed during the late evening of June 27 in the 1000 block of Inca Drive in Harvey.

Homicide Detective Melvin Francis said he learned that Raynell Whittaker, 17, of Harvey, also being sought as an accessory after the fact in the case, had been in Orleans Parish Prison since Aug. 13 on armed robbery charges. Whittaker will be rebooked as a fugitive on the pending arrest warrant from Jefferson Parish.

The JPSO announced Wednesday the arrest of Markeisha Lewis, 24, of Harvey, also in connection with her knowledge about the death of Robinson. Lewis admitted being in the company of LeVangie and Whittaker immediately after the shooting.

Cab stolen Friday is recovered

A 51-year-old cab driver had his cab stolen along with his wallet.

The driver said he picked up a man and a woman at Canal and Bourbon streets about 5 a.m. Friday.

The man pointed a gun at the driver at Cleveland Avenue and South Telemachus Street, took his wallet and demanded he leave the vehicle, according to police.

The man and woman then rode off in the cab, which was recovered shortly thereafter.

Man stabbed Thursday on Tchoupitoulas

A 36-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stabbing another man in the 1600 block of Tchoupitoulas Street.

According to police, Tyrone Edwards got into an argument with a 39-year-old man over cigarettes.

The fight, which occurred about 6 p.m., escalated, and the victim sustained multiple stab wounds.
