A Jefferson Parish man pleaded guilty to aggravated rape and sexual battery Tuesday and was sentenced to 40 years in prison and chemical castration upon his release.
Thomas M. Valverde, 48, of Metairie, who had been set to go to trial Tuesday, was accused of raping an 11-year-old girl between June 2012 and December 2013.
Valverde, 48, will not be eligible for parole, probation or suspended sentence and will have to register as a sex offender.
Judge Steven Enright imposed two 40-year sentences to run concurrently and gave Valverde credit for time served. He will be administered Medroxyprogesterone acetate one month before his release.
Valverde’s former girlfriend pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact and making false statements to help to conceal Valverde’s crimes. She was sentenced to five years, given credit for the two years she served and is on active probation for three years.
