A man was shot and killed Sunday night inside a black Chevy Malibu at Interstate 10 eastbound near Plaza Drive.
Officer Juan Barnes, a Police Department spokesman, announced the homicide about 7:30 p.m.
Man beaten in French Quarter fight
A man in his late 40s was found injured after reports of a fight late Sunday morning in the French Quarter, New Orleans police said.
Several witnesses reported the fight near Bourbon and Gov. Nicholls streets about 10:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man in his late 40s “suffering from lacerations to his body,” said NOPD Officer Juan Barnes, a departmental spokesman.
The man may be homeless, and the weapon used to hit him may have been a metal pipe, Barnes said.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Barnes said.
Four armed robberies reported overnight
A woman was carjacked in Gentilly, a convenience store and a driver were both robbed on St. Claude Avenue, and a gas station in Carrollton was robbed over a six-hour stretch overnight, New Orleans police said.
About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a woman in her late 30s was in the 2000 block of Sere Street when a man with a gun approached, ordered her out of her car and drove off in it, according to the initial NOPD report. Investigators later found her vehicle.
About 1 a.m. Sunday, a man walked into Mike’s Food Store at 3935 St. Claude with a handgun and demanded the money from the register, police said. The cashier gave him the money, and he also took a Powerade and a 12-pack of beer before leaving, an initial report states.
About 2:15 a.m., a 25-year-old man was putting air in a tire in the 5100 block of St. Claude when he was approached by an armed man with a cloth over his face. The masked man hit the victim with a handgun, the report in that case states. The victim ran into a nearby convenience store, and his attacker got into the victim’s car and drove away.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., a man with a gun walked into the Chevron gas station at 1400 S. Carrollton Ave. and demanded the money from the store, the police report says. The clerk handed over $1,500, and the gunman left.
Four arrested in New Orleans East
New Orleans police announced the arrests of four people over the past week in connection with separate cases involving two home burglaries and a carjacking.
Delbert Veal, 19, was arrested May 31 in connection with a home burglary in the 6000 block of Winchester Drive after he was found to have some of the stolen items, according to an NOPD news release. Veal was booked on possession of stolen property.
Richard Jones, 17, and Kerric Brown, 23, were stopped June 1 at Wright Road and Roger Drive while driving a gray Honda Element that had been taken in a May 21 carjacking in the 900 block of North Dorgenois Street, the news release says. Both were booked on possession of stolen property.
Brown had a .38-caliber pistol and also was booked as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Brianne Duplessis, 17, was arrested along with three younger boys Tuesday after breaking into a home in the 4800 block of Lafon Street, the police said. Officers briefly chased Duplessis and the three boys on foot in order to arrest them, the report notes. Duplessis was booked on counts of simple burglary, resisting an officer and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, while the three boys were all booked on simple burglary.
Male victim injured in Marrero shooting
A male victim was injured in a shooting Sunday on 8th Street in Marrero near Dimarco Drive, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting was reported about 5 p.m. The man’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
