Three men were arrested over the weekend in connection with three separate sexual assaults that took place in New Orleans between April and this month.

In the oldest case, police believe New Orleans East resident James Mosley, 24, forced a woman at gunpoint to perform oral sex underneath the Seabrook Bridge in early April.

Detective Jessica Williams, of the NOPD’s Sex Crimes Unit, wrote in a warrant that the victim told police she met a man in the French Quarter on April 1 and exchanged phone numbers with him.

On April 3, according to the warrant, the pair met outside the man’s apartment in the 6800 block of Kenilworth Drive in New Orleans East, and the woman agreed to drive him to a convenience store, but once inside the vehicle, the man took out a gun and pointed it at her head.

“Do what the (expletive) I told you,” the man said. He then ordered the woman to park underneath the Seabrook Bridge at Leon C. Simon and Lakeshore drives and forced her to perform oral sex, police said. He then stole the woman’s car, stranding her beneath the bridge.

Police said they were able to process DNA evidence from a condom worn by the man and left near the crime scene. Results from the Louisiana State Police Crime lab connected the DNA to Mosley.

When Mosley was brought in for questioning, Williams wrote, he claimed that he had never been under the bridge and that he could not remember speaking with the victim. Mosley claimed he never would have told a woman to meet him outside his girlfriend’s apartment.

Williams pressed Mosley, she wrote, telling him that police had records of his cellphone communications with the victim. Finally, she wrote, Mosley admitted that he “may have been with the victim at some point but was unable to go into detail about what happened.” He claimed he could not recall what had happened, Williams wrote, so she ended the interview.

A judge signed a warrant for Mosley’s arrest on a count of aggravated rape, second-degree kidnapping and carjacking on July 6. He was taken into custody Saturday.

In a separate incident on Sept. 11, a woman said she was forced to perform oral sex in the 3300 block of Tulane Avenue on a man she had just met named “Patrick,” police said.

Williams identified “Patrick” as Patrick Joseph, 19, and the victim identified him in a lineup. He was booked Friday on a count of second-degree rape.

Police also arrested Clarence Burton, 60, of New Orleans, on Saturday. They accused him of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman after she fell asleep during a night of drinking Friday. During an interview, police said, Burton confessed to having sex with the victim while she was asleep and to having had sex with her previously when she was 16.

Burton was booked on counts of simple rape and carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
