Man shot to death on North Claiborne

An unidentified man was found shot to death early Tuesday in the 1100 block of North Claiborne Avenue, New Orleans police said.

Officers found the man lying on the ground about 1:30 a.m. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

NOPD calls in SWAT on Esplanade

The New Orleans Police Department’s SWAT team was called out Monday night after an alleged gunman barricaded himself inside a home. The man died later in the standoff.

The incident began about 10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Esplanade Avenue, where a man shot his brother in the hand, according to police. After police responded to the scene, the victim ran outside, but the alleged shooter barricaded himself in the residence.

About 1:30 a.m., police got into the residence and found the 51-year-old gunman suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is being investigated as a possible suicide.

The brother, 67, who was shot in the hand was taken to the hospital.

Two arrested in damage to ball fields

Slidell police arrested two teenagers for allegedly causing $15,000 worth of damage to the Slidell Bantam Baseball Association fields and equipment.

Adrian McClendon, 17, and an unnamed 16-year-old were booked on simple burglary and criminal damage, Detective Daniel Seuzeneau said.

The incident occurred between Dec. 12 and 17, when the two teens are alleged to have broken into several buildings, taken a golf cart they used to vandalize several baseball fields and then destroyed the cart.

An anonymous tip led to the two teens being questioned. They admitted to the vandalism and said they did it because they were “bored,” Seuzeneau said.

Woman carjacked in New Orleans East

A 21-year-old woman parking her car was robbed about 8 p.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Downman Road.

A man walked up and demanded her property. The victim complied, and the man fled in her car, according to police.

Magnolia Discount robbed on Tuesday

An armed man and a woman robbed a Magnolia Discount store early Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred in the 3400 block of South Carrollton Avenue about 1 a.m.

The pair entered the store and demanded money from the two registers, according to police. Clerks handed over the money, and the robbers fled.

Three men wanted in Treme burglary

New Orleans police are looking for three men in connection with a burglary in Treme.

A man was in his home in the 2500 block of Bienville Street about 1 a.m. Feb. 2 when he heard a loud noise, according to police. Three men broke through the front door and demanded money.

After the victim complied, they fled on foot.
